Centers  
   The UMIACS Centers group together a number of Faculty working on a common interdisciplinary theme that is being pursued through several major sponsored research programs. Each Center is led by a Director who is responsible for setting the research goals of the Center and for collaborating with the affiliated faculty to secure the funding of its programs. One or more laboratories are typically affiliated with each Center.
CfAR  
   The Center for Automation Research conducts research in the general area of computer vision and graphics and includes aspects of document image analysis and multimedia computing.
Bioinformatics  
   This newly established Center in UMIACS will include faculty from Biochemistry, Biology, Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics, Computer Science, and Mathematics, focusing initially on computational genomics and will serve as the main interface between biological and computational sciences on campus.
FC-MD  
   The Fraunhofer Center at Maryland is an independent Center affiliated with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, whose main mission is to build collaborations with industry related to experimental software engineering. Professors Vic Basili and Marv Zelkowitz of UMIACS and Computer Science are co-Directors of the Center.
